At Totley All Saints, we like to celebrate World Book Day in style! WBD is celebrated all over the country on the first Thursday in March every year & we like our children to not only ‘get reading’ but also to do lots of other amazing activities.
During the week, we have special assemblies in which teachers share their favourite books. Children are also given a ‘World Book Day’ voucher, which can be used in exchange for special editions or can be used as part payment towards buying any other book.
In addition, we also ask children to begin thinking about their own special books in order to share it with the rest of the class as part of a ‘Speed Read’, book review share or Book Swap.
We also hold competitions such as a ‘Favourite Book & Blurb’ design, Book Bunting or best book review where the best in each class gets a special certificate & book prize. Other activities include: Extreme Read (bringing in photos of family members reading in the most unexpected of places), making book marks plus a whole host of reading related activities!
Finally, we also come dressed up as favourite book characters on the day – from Alice in Wonderland to Willy Wonka – you can find them all at TASS!
Visit the World Book Day website for great ideas on how you can encourage your child to enjoy reading & get the most from books!
You can also download our very own Parent Booklet on World Book Day which gives some great ideas on how you can help your child with reading.
