World Book Day

009At Totley All Saints, we like to celebrate World Book Day in style! WBD is celebrated all over the country on the first Thursday in March every year & we like our children to not only get reading but also to do lots of other amazing activities.

During the week, we have special assemblies in which teachers share their favourite books.  Children are also given a ‘World Book Day’ voucher, which can be used in exchange for special editions or can be used as part payment towards buying any other book.

047In addition, we also ask children to begin thinking about their own special book in order to share it with the rest of the class as part of our very own ‘Speed Read’ event. This is a chance for children to travel around the classroom, speak for 3 minutes on their favourite book & for it to be rated by the listeners. At the end of the session, each class then comes up with its own Top Ten Books.

We also hold  a ‘Favourite Book & Blurb’ competition where children are asked to produce an original design for a front cover (front) & blurb (back). Other activities include: Extreme Read (bringing in photos of family members reading in the most unexpected of places), making book marks plus a whole host of reading related activities!

Finally, we also come dressed up as favourite book characters on the day – from Willy Wonka to Alice in Wonderland – you can find them all at TASS!

Visit the World Book Day website for great ideas on how you can encourage your child to enjoy reading & get the most from books!

You can also download our very own Parent Booklet 2017 on World Book Day which gives some great ideas on how you can help your child with reading.

There was no way the teacher could have been told everything, but within just a couple of weeks we felt that she had gained an excellent understanding of our child. We couldn’t be happier with the support our child has been given during her first term at TASS! Thank you!
