TASS Aspire Day is held with the aim of inspiring our children to think about their futures & what they would like to become ‘when they grow up’. We have University students come in to share what they are studying as well as the pathways that they had taken in order to get there. We also have a fantastic variety of parents / carers & members of the community who volunteer their time to come in & talk to classes about the jobs that they do, plus how & why they chose such a route.
Everyone is asked to bring something in for the children to look at in order to make their ‘story’ real. This involves something like a PowerPoint with pictures, an object that they use or have produced in their work, awards, certificates or something that represents their learning / life journey.
They also tell the children about themselves (family, hobbies, interests outside of work, talents, background, education, different jobs, etc.); why they do what they do (beliefs, ethos, passions, drivers, meaning, rewards, personal growth, etc.) as well as anecdotes to make it real & relevant (best bits, funny bits, hard bits, challenges, where they’ve needed to keep going, determination, obligation, etc.).
Each session lasts around 25 minutes which enables lots of varied learning journeys to be shared. All in all, it’s a great day & our children who are all inspired to go on to do amazing things!
