Over the years, TASS has organised a whole host of residential visits to many different places! Residentials take place in Y4, Y5 & Y6 & most recently have included: The Peaks Cenres at Edale, The Oaks, Thornbridge, Kingswood & Castleton. This year, we were also fortunate enough to be able to have a ‘Night at the Museum’ with our Y3s & Y4s!
Residentials are fantastic opportunities for our children to learn new things in a different environment, gain some independence from home as well as develop further social skills. They also build self confidence, problem solving & cooperation skills, plus give a greater awareness of safety & risk. The children always have a great time & often cite residentials as one of their favourite memories from their time at TASS.
Night at the Museum
Children from the Y3 & Y4 classes had a ‘Night at the Museum’ & stayed overnight at Weston Park Museum in February & had an amazing time! Unlike the film, there were no monkeys, cave men, dinosaurs & other displays coming to life, but they still had the best time ever!
Castleton
The Y4s visit Castleton each year & stay at Losehill Hall in the heart of the Peak District. The children stay overnight & enjoy two days worth of amazing activities, including visiting Peveril Castle, the Peak & Treak Cliff Caverns, plus take part in things like gem panning, candle making & archery. The Oaks Holiday Centre
The Y5s visit The Oaks each year for two evenings & three days. As it is so close to school (Norton) parents drop off & pick up their children which cuts down on the cost of travel. The Oakes Holiday Centre is a 36 roomed Georgian house with 7 acres of grounds & a team of full-time staff live on site to organise and run the camp programmes. Activities include: crazy golf, ropes course, barrel rafting, radio control cars, climbing wall games, craft activities, a water slide, games room, survival games & making a bonfire! Thornbridge Outdoor Centre
The Y6s have visited Thornbridge at different times in the past often for up to a week. Thornbridge Outdoors Centre is ideally located to take advantage of the Peak District National Park. The children have stayed in the self accommodation Lodge which has 9 bedrooms, a dining/communal area, plus a fully equipped kitchen. The children have enjoyed cycling, walking, orienteering, travelling along zip wires, high ropes, exploring local caves, plus had a BBQ & a bonfire. To find out more, please click.
Kingswood Peak Venture
The Y6s also visited Kingswood Peak venture in Penistone & again had a fantastic time! With stimulating environments, state of the-art facilities and highly qualified instructors, the children took part in various activities including: abseiling, aero ball, balance beam, beach games, bouldering, bush craft, canoeing, caving & campfire activities.
