Home Learning Y5 – School Closure

Out of School Learning

Year 5

Dear parents & carers of a wonderful Y5 child,

As you are aware, Sheffield schools will be closed for a short period due to the Coronavirus (COVID- 19). We want to minimise the impact this will have on your child’s learning so we have put together this bank of ideas to ensure your child will continue learning and consolidating their understanding whilst being away from school. In addition, we would ask that you access the activities that have been set here on a daily basis by Mrs Winson & Mrs MacPherson (Mon to Fri on normal school days).

Set Activities:

Friday 27th March

Good morning Year Five.

Today is all about word problems.  Choose two calculations from each of the last four days and write a word problem for each one.  See if someone in your family can solve them!

Read a page from your reading book and draw what is being described. (Make sure the section you choose has lots of description in it.)  You may want to label features of your drawing.

Optional topic

Don’t forget, as well as daily activities we would like you to do the following:

20 minutes of reading

Times tables practice (eg Times tables rockstars)

60 minutes of exercise over the day

Some activities that your children can be doing:

  • TT Rockstars
  • Practice previously learnt spellings and put each into a sentence
  • Read lots of books
  • Write book reviews
  • Practice times tables
  • Create your own five part story
  • Create your own traditional fairytale
  • Make your own Maths game and write instruction for how to play it
  • Make your own Spag game and write instruction for how to play it
  • Research and write a biography about your favorite author/sports person/courageous advocate
  • Look at the activities from ‘Classroom Secrets Kids’ and revise previous work
  • Look on our school website ‘Parents Helping your Child’ with homework – for a list of useful websites

There was no way the teacher could have been told everything, but within just a couple of weeks we felt that she had gained an excellent understanding of our child. We couldn’t be happier with the support our child has been given during her first term at TASS! Thank you!
