At Totley All Saints, we like to ensure that our children develop an understanding of their own
culture, that of others in the UK & within the wider world. We want our children to feel comfortable in a variety of backgrounds & be able to operate in the emerging world culture of shared experiences provided by television, travel and the internet. We also want them to develop a sense of personal identity, whilst at the same time acquiring awareness, understanding, respect & tolerance regarding the cultural traditions & beliefs of others.

Global Citizenship Progression of Skills
At the end of September, we took part in the world’s largest lesson. This involved the children becoming aware of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development as well as learning how they can play an important part in achieving them in all countries, for all people.
The Global Goals for Sustainable Development are where 193 world leaders aim to achieve 3 extraordinary things over the next 15 years: end extreme poverty, fight inequality & injustice & fix climate change. We hope that as we teach our children about these goals, they may become part of the generation that changes the world!
Another way in which we try to achieve this, is through our Global Week which takes place in the summer term. This year each class took a continent each & learned about various aspects, such as: population data, climate, religion, language, food & traditions.
The continents were covered as follows: Australia (FS2), Antarctica (Y1), Asia (Y2), South America (Y3), Africa (Y4), North America (Y5) & Europe (Y6).
The children had a fantastic time & were particularly excited by the amazing foods that they got to taste as well as getting to see & touch artefacts – many of which were sent in by our parents. The week culminated in children showing off their work to parents, carers & friends after school.
