At Totley All Saints, we’re proud of the work that we do to make our children more aware of ecological issues. We are also very proud that we were successful in our Green Flag award in October 2016!
The Global Neighbours (previously Eco- Saints) are voted in annually & their big job has been to continue implementing the Green Flag action plan & they meet with Mrs Brown (Y4) every two weeks on Thursdays.
The aims of the Global Neighbours / Eco-Saints is to:
- Ensure that the whole school is aware of the Eco-Schools programme;
- Take the lead in carrying out the Environmental Review;
- Ensure that everyone in the school community is represented in the decision-making process;
- Provide a link between pupils, teachers, senior management team, governors and the whole school community;
- Take the lead in delivering the Eco-Schools Action Plan.
We have an Eco Code devised by the children of the school which is our commitment to improving our environmental performance.
Eco Schools consists of 9 topic areas: energy, water, biodiversity, school grounds, healthy living, transport, litter, waste, and Global Citizenship. At TASS, we have chosen 3 areas to concentrate on; litter, school grounds and global citizenship. Energy is a compulsory topic. We must show that we are trying to cut the amount of electricity we use.
We aim to raise the profile of eco matters across school by introducing termly assemblies, clean & weed class rotas, making clear links to class teaching and having an exciting whole school project in the school grounds that everyone can contribute towards – we hope to produce our own outdoor collage using recycled bottle tops -so if you have any, please send them our way!
Green Day:
Our Global Neighbours also get busy when organising their annual Green Day event held in the summer term! This is where all of our children are divided into Global Neighbours teams & take part in various activities designed by the Eco-Saints themselves. These include: up-cycling with margarine tub boats & paper crafts, wildlife conservation with bird feeders & insect houses, improving the school grounds with natural art, weeding & litter gathering, keeping fit with aerobics, healthy baking & loads more. Here are just a few photos of this year’s activities:
