The Children’s University (CU) complements all of the amazing extra curricular activities that we do at TASS & offers a valuable means of recognising & celebrating the importance of out of school hours learning.
There are also lots of exciting activities taking place across the city beyond school, such as karate, dance, cookery & media, where children can earn CU credits with a ‘Passport to Learning’. This is where children are awarded one credit for every hour that they participate & these hours add up to earn Children’s University Awards. Passports to Learning can be bought for £2.00 at most learning destinations, i.e. places where children go to earn credits.
Children’s commitment to learning is celebrated by recording participation in all aspects of voluntary learning through an awards system. One credit is awarded for each hour of learning that takes place. These are then converted into awards:
Bronze (30 hours)
Silver (65 hours)
…and these continue right up to 1000 hours!
There are already many children and young people aged 4 to 19 years old across the city clocking up CU Credits and earning awards. Since the start of Sheffield CU in 2005, more than 16,000 children and young people have, between them, gained over half a million CU Credits!
